I arrived in Provincetown in 1948 to study with Henry Hensche and remained here since. In those days I painted portraits, Provincetown and the Bay. At around age 30 my work turned to the abstract. This lasted approximately 30 years. Then surprisingly even to myself, I quite suddenly returned to classical realism; painting Still-Life and the figure. Six years ago, while looking at the lily pond in Beechwood Forest, I realized here was subject that could inspire me both realistically and abstractly. And so, the pond has been my inspiration ever since.
